New Music Friday Ft. Judah And The Lion, Weezer, and Gary Clark Jr.

Judah Akers from Judah And The Lion

Today we celebrate the last Friday of February with new music by Judah And The Lion, Weezer, and Gary Clark Jr.

Judah And The Lion
Judah and The Lion have teamed up with four-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves in their latest single “pictures.” The song was inspired by a time of turmoil in frontman Judah Akers’ family which lead to the unexpected divorce of his parents while he and the band were off on tour.

In a recent statement, Akers describes why he felt the need to write this song: “I had a really deep moment with my mom when she called me and broke down bawling about how hard it was to move from our family house. I kind of saw my mom as a human for the first time, and it made me really empathetic toward her. I wrote the song from her perspective and it came in a flood, in five minutes, right after the call. I needed to write it because I was heartsick.”

The song will be featured in the band’s forthcoming album Pep Talks, which is due out May 3.

Weezer
Weezer have released two new songs that we can expect to find on their forthcoming album The Black Album, as well as a video for one of the tracks. The tracks titled “High As A Kite” and “Living In LA” were both produced by Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio. The album is set to be released on March 1 and is the band’s 12th studio album.

Gary Clark Jr.

After months of teasing his album with singles like “This Land” and “I Walk Alone,” Gary Clark Jr.’s album This Land was finally released this morning via Warner Bros. The album evokes various different types of emotions and showcases different styles of sound, all while still being backed up by Clark’s blues-heavy guitar riffs. Earlier this month, Gary Clark Jr. made his performance debut on NBC’s Saturday Night Live where many realized what we Austinites already knew: Gary Clark Jr. is a force to be reckoned with. Clark will be kicking off his tour in March but not before making one last stop in Austin for an Austin City Limits TV taping.
