Death Cab for Cutie Debut New Song “Summer Years” at Tour Opener

With new album “Thank You for Today” coming out in August, Death Cab for Cutie is finally releasing singles, and we’re in love. The band dropped “Gold Rush” last week and performed “Summer Years” last Sunday in Amsterdam at their tour kick-off. Lead singer Ben Gibbard gave the crowd a quick disclaimer before playing the new song, saying “this is the first time we’re playing any of this stuff – I say that not for any reason to make you feel extra super special but to give us an out if we happen to [f***] it up.” The band then started in on a slow, melodic tune with that signature forlorn Death Cab guitar riff and Gibbard’s voice sounding like it hadn’t aged a day since “Plans.” New single “Summer Years” is exactly the fresh update on the band’s classic sound we expected since founding member Chris Walla’s departure from the group, and we can’t wait to hear how the album itself has come together.
