Meet The Artists Joining Us On Thursday For 101X's Day Party During SXSW
Belle Mt. is a three-piece comprised of frontman Matt Belmont, guitarist Ben Worsley, and drummer Chris Burgess. All three musicians play multiple roles within the band in order to create a layered soundscape evident in many of their songs. Belle Mt. found success with their music once they started working with award-winning Nashville-based producer Femke Weidema. Weidema helped produce singles like “Hollow” and "Let Me” and the band eventually released their EP Volume I via LV Music, Weidema's participation-based record label. Although there have not been any hints at new music this year, we’re excited to see what Belle Mt. will bring to the table at the 101X Day Party during SXSW.
Judah & the Lion is the Nashville-based band made up of Judah Akers, Brian Macdonald, and Nate Zuercher. The three met while they were students at Belmont University and after meeting up for a jam session, they decided to team up and start a band. In the beginning, the band incorporated their Christian roots into their music—even naming the band after a biblical passage. But as time went on, the band knew they had to rebrand themselves in order to reach a wider audience, so they embraced a new sound; one that led them to release the album Folk Hop N’ Roll in 2016. It was the single “Take It All Back” from that album that earned Judah & the Lion a considerable amount of recognition which took the band to new heights.
Judah & the Lion are now getting ready to release a new album titled Pep Talks, and have released two singles from the album: “Over My Head” and “Pictures.” The latter features Country singer Kacey Musgraves and was released just days after she took home 4 Grammys, including Album of the Year. We are so excited to have these guys perform at the 101X Day Party during SXSW this year!
Meet Mobley, the one-man band from Austin, TX who is changing the way music is made. There aren’t many artists who can do what this man does and make it sound good, which is why he’s garnered the attention of many throughout his years of playing. Mobley became enthralled with music at an early age and began to learn to play various instruments such as violin and trumpet. As an adult musician, Mobley often faced the challenge of conflicting schedules with bandmate’s which made touring seem almost impossible; that’s when he decided to try out the concept of a one-man band. Watching Mobley perform is an experience all its own—Mobley jumps around from instrument to instrument, all while keeping the crowd engaged throughout. We cannot wait for Mobley to bring the party to Thursday’s 101X Day Party during SXSW.
In case you didn’t know, 24-year-old English singer-songwriter Sam Fender was recently awarded the BRIT Award for Critics’ Choice—a prestigious honor previously won by artists like Adele, Sam Smith, and Florence + The Machine. This award has launched him into the spotlight over-night, but many people may not know that Fender has been making music for years—he started his musical journey at the young age of 13. The future is looking bright for Sam Fender, and we are so excited to have him at this year’s 101X Day Party during SXSW.
Mansionair is a trio formed back in 2014 when Lachan Bostock and Alex Nicholls invited their friend Jack Froggatt to record vocals for the single “Hold Me Down.” Since their formation, Mansionair has traveled with the likes of Chvrches, Alt-J, and London Grammar and collaborated with Odesza. After signing with Glassnote Records, the trio released the track “Easier” in 2017; the track has now garnered over 20 million streams on Spotify. On March 1, 2019, the band released their first full-length album titled Shadowboxer. We can’t wait to hear some of these new tunes live at our Thursday showcase during SXSW!
Flora Cash is made up of musicians Cole Randall and Shpresa Lleshaj and the story of how they met is as close to a fairytale as it can possibly get in today’s world. The two met via Soundcloud back in 2012; at the time, Randall was living in Minneapolis and Lleshaj in Sweden but their connection defied the distance between them. Within a year of meeting, the couple was married. The two started making music instantly, but it was their hit “You’re Somebody Else” that catapulted the duo into the mainstream. Now in 2019, Flora Cash has released a new song titled “They Own This Town” and plan on releasing a second full-length album later this year. Could the wife-and-husband duo surprise us with some new music at the 101X Day Party during SXSW? We’ll just have to wait and see!
