I’ve always had a soft spot for Miami’s Torche–a band that’s been hard to pin down in their fifteen years, with sounds falling somewhere between the metal acts with which it often finds itself touring, and something just…”more”–sometimes venturing into stoner rock, chops-revealing prog, and elsewhere. That “elsewhere” got them on last fall’s Levitation lineup here in town. And my staff pick reflects some of that “elsewhere”, too–a shoegazey pop (but still noisy) confection that serves as the title track to the fifth Torche album, Admission. Listen for it–and here’s the video:

I’ve been hooked on Phantogram since first hearing When I’m Small a decade ago. Since then, the duo has grown into a powerhouse act.
