(4/18/21) Monty’s Catch of the Day – Chet Faker

Chet Faker - "Whatever Tomorrow"

Today’s catch of the day comes from Chet Faker…or is it Nick Murphy…it’s Chet Faker. The Australian musician who first went by Chet Faker, and then changed it to his real name Nick Murphy, has recently re-adopted the Faker moniker and announced a new album on the way. The upcoming LP is called Hotel Surrender, and will be the first under the name Chet Faker since 2015. The album is set for release on 7/16, and contains today’s catch “Whatever Tomorrow“. He can change his name to whatever he wants as long as he keeps putting out kick-ass records like this one. It still has that unique sound of electronic & blues that he has become known for…absolutely brilliant! From his press release…

It felt like we were being sold tomorrow and we were paying for today. I was saying, ‘Fuck your tomorrow, we deserve our lives now.

You’ve got to find some light—or sometimes dark, whatever’s right—and share it. I realized that was the heart of the Chet Faker project. And I felt like the world was hurting, so I thought, ‘I can do a small something to give people some joy.
