New Music Friday Ft. Pixies, Phantogram, and half•alive

Pixies

Pixies

Pixies have released a new single titled “Catfish Kate” along with an animated video, created by animators Neirin Best and Lianne Pierce. Watch the video below. “Catfish Kate” is the second offering from the alt-rockers forthcoming album Beneath the Eyrie, and follows the previously released single “On Graveyard Hill.”

Recorded at Dreamland Recordings near Woodstock, NY, the new album has been described as one “where tales of witches, Daniel Boone, misfits, and other characters fit utterly into the band’s inherent weirdness.” The album is set to be released on September 13 via the band’s new label, Infectious/BMG.

Phantogram

In anticipation of their North American tour, Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, better known as Phantogram, have been staying busy releasing new music—this time the duo have shared a single titled “Mister Impossible.” Listen to the track below. This is the band’s second release in 2019 after a few years of staying relatively quiet on the release radar.

In a recent statement, Phantogram explains: “Mister Impossible” was a song title we had in mind for a long time before it was written. We started working on it in the studio we built over the last year in Laurel Canyon, which we call Harmony West—we haven’t had our own workspace since Harmony Lodge [the barn where the band made their first couple albums in upstate New York], and it’s been so inspiring to have the opportunity once again to create music in our own space. Then we went out to Joshua Tree this last spring to work at Rancho de la Luna, where the recording really came together—some of the most fun we’ve had making music in a long time.”

As part of their fall tour, the duo will perform at Stubbs in Austin on September 24th as part of the 101X Concert Series. Tickets to the show are available for purchase but are going fast so you may want to grab yours soon! OR test your luck and tune in to 101X daily to find out how you can win your way into the show!
