Daft Punk Part Ways After 28 Years

After nearly three decades of electronic dance music and collaboration pieces that soared to the top of the charts, iconic duo Daft Punk have called it quits. The surprising news was announced with a voiceless YouTube video titled “Epilogue.” The 8-minute video is the only component linked to the break-up. A statement for the parting has not been released, however their longtime publicist Kathryn Frazier confirmed the news.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo created Daft Punk in Paris back in 1993, that’s when dance tunes with an influence of French house music was born. The musical duo dropped their debut album in 1997, which featured some of their classic hits “Around the World” and “Da Funk.”

By 2001, the two dropped their sophomore album Discovery. That same year their futuristic look became a signature trademark at public events. Their robotic outfits consisted of leather jackets, metallic gloves and those recognizable engineered face helmets.

Over the years Daft Punk collaborated with renowned artists across all genres. Artists featured on their collaboration list were Kanye West, Julian Casablancas, Jay-Z, and Nile Rodgers. The duo also worked with singer and producer Pharrell on their 2013 lead single “Get Lucky,” featured in the album Random Access Memories. The album led to five Grammy wins, taking home Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Get Lucky.” Additionally, Daft Punk teamed up with The Weeknd back in 2016. Together they created the hit tracks “Star Boy” and “I Feel It Coming.”

Although this is a farewell to Daft Punk, perhaps more music is to come under another name, or individually. Watch them say goodbye below.
