“The News” is the new track and second single for Paramore’s upcoming album, This Is Why.
High energy in this song with themes of the never-ending news dilemma and protecting your mental health. Hayley Williams being a prominent public personality and dealing with a few big news stories herself, the band is definitely airing out some frustration. The music video invokes a lot of horror imagery, seeing multiple Hayley’s with varied looks and effects. The real world can be a scary place!
Hayley Williams stated in interview, “The 24-hr news cycle is just impossible to comprehend. And I feel a pang of guilt when I unplug to protect my headspace. The common reaction, or non-reaction, seems to be dissociation. Not one of us is innocent of that and who could blame us?”
