(9/11/22) Monty’s Catch of the Day – Björk

Björk - "Atopos"

Today’s catch comes from our favorite little Icelandic pixie…Björk. The iconic avant-garde artist & musician will soon be releasing a brand new album in 5 long years. The name of the LP is Fossora, which will be out on 9/30, and today’s catch is the first single to be released from it. The track is called “Atopos“, and it’s absolutely brilliant. It can also be described as weird, creative, and different from most music that is out right now, but it’s the fact that she follows no rules when it comes to composing, writing, arranging, and vocalizing that makes it so fantastic. She does not follow any usual musical format when it comes to “Atopos“, which allows you to take an incredible journey. From her Instagram…

each album always starts with a feeling
that i try to shape into sound
this time around
the feeling was landing
on the earth and digging my feet into the ground
( after my last album utopia which was all island in the clouds element air and no bass )

it was also woven into how i experienced the “now”
this time around 7 billion of us did it together
nesting in our homes quarantining
being long enough in one place that we shot down roots

my new album “fossora” is about that
it is a word i made up
it is the feminine of fossore ( digger, delver, ditcher )
so in short it means “she who digs” ( into the ground )

so sonically it is about bass , heavy bottom-end ,
we have 6 bass clarinets and punchy sub

She also asks that you play this loudly because of the enormous importance of bass in this song. You can watch the artistic & trippy video for today’s catch “Atapos” by Björk in the YouTube player below. Good things!
