(1/24/21) Monty’s Catch of the Day – Madlib and Four Tet

Madlib - "Dirtknock"

Today’s catch of the day comes from producer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist, and rapper, Otis Jackson, Jr…aka Madlib. He is regarded as one of the best producers & musician in the past 20 years, and uses many different styles (soul, jazz, hip-hop, funk, electronic, and psychedelic) that has defined his sound. He is also one half of the duo Madvillain, which had him partnered up with the late MF Doom. Over the years, Madlib has worked with Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet on smaller projects and remixes. But now they are ready for something bigger. Four Tet said that Madlib has sent him “hundreds of pieces of music” for the past two years, and now they are putting together a full length LP called Sound Ancestors. Today’s catch is the latest collaboration from these incredible musicians called “Dirtknock“…an infectious track containing a mixture of sounds from the two talents. This will be a Madlib album; however, Four Tet will be credited with the writing, editing, arranging, and producing of the LP. Sound Ancestors is due out January 29! You can listen to today’s catch “Dirtknock” from Madlib w/ Four Tet in the YouTube player below. Good things!
