Concert Review: One small step for the Parish, One giant leap for Walk the Moon

As the starry eyed fans in the front row waited in anticipation for Walk the Moon to take the stage, the light from their glow in the dark necklaces illuminated the smiles on their faces. The screams from the sold out crowd at the Parish echoed throughout the venue, encouraging the members of Walk The Moon to quickly run out on stage and snatch up their instruments. With faces lightly painted and instruments in hand, they quickly leapt into “ The Liftaway”, perfectly harmonizing their voices as lead singer Nicholas Petricca transitioned from synthesizer to floor tom.

The energy of the night was at an all time high with “Quesadilla” and “Next in Line” urging the crowd to sing every lyric along with the group. Performing songs primarily from the band’s debut album I Want! I Want! ,  Walk the Moon also surprised their fans with songs from their upcoming self-titled album. With the set lasting a little over an hour, Walk the Moon ended the set with “Fixin’,” from the group’s upcoming release, and “Anna Sun,” the undisputed summer hit and single from the group’s recent EP. With a quick break, Walk the Moon emerged from the back stage area opening the encore with “White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes and ending the night with “I Can Lift a Car”.

Although they are a fairly new group, these young guns are a force to be reckoned with. Their live show is flawless and full of energy mixing pop riffs and catchy dance hooks forcing the crowd to dance along. Although it was the band’s second time in Austin, the show’s sold-out status proved Walk the Moon has a large following that will keep growing.
