This week Crossfit Central had a Paleo Potluck Picnic at Northwest Park near their burnet location. I was only going to pop by on my way home from work, but I ended up enjoying it so much I stayed until dark. It was neat getting to hang out with the people I've met through Crossfit Central in a social setting, although, it was strange seeing the same people who talk about nutrition in class drinking beer and eating bratwursts. I guess even Crossfit coaches are human and need to relax with a cold one now and then.
I also discovered this awesome game called Hooverball that has become a favorite of people who are into Crossfit. It's basically volleyball with a medicine ball. I got to play a round and it gets pretty intense. Check out the video below.

For some reason yesterday I was really dragging ass in the morning. Maybe it had something to do with not being very active over the weekend or maybe it was just one of those Mondays that suck, but I found myself at a crossroads. I could down a couple of Red Bulls and struggle through the rest of my day or I could jump in on an early class at Crossfit Central and have the WOD wake my ass up. I chose the latter option and I was immensely glad I did. Nothing better to wake your ass up than doing some barbell thrusters and pull-ups.
Plus I had plans to check out Cap City's Funniest Person In Austin contest that night and it was better timing wise to workout midday than late afternoon. If I didn't love my downtown coach and class so much it would probably be easier ...

With the start of May the official (hopefully) final countdown in the De-Nickification is here. At the end of the month I will have my last weigh-in to see if I have lost enough weight to get hair from Restora Austin. After taking the last week off April off from working out at Crossfit Central I'm feeling refreshed and ready to lose this last bit of weight. Since I haven't weighed myself in a while I might even be underweight as you read this. I have Crossfit again tonight at their downtown location so I'll be sure to get an official number for these last few weeks.
Normally I work out at 6:45pm downtown but occasionally due to radio stuff I'll have to work out earlier in the day and will usually jump into one of the noon classes at their Burnet Rd location. That happened to me on Monday ...

No Crossfit Central this week. On the one hand it's nice to have a week off from being sore, but on the other I feel like a lazy fatass not working out. I've let the workouts slide a bit this week since I've spent the extra time catching up on other work though. Looking forward to getting back on schedule next week.
This week I decided to make a video that show my Crossfit coach going over one of our workouts from last week. By far the biggest difference for me between Crossfit Central and just joining a gym is the support and motivation you get from their staff. There is not a single doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be having the success I've had without them. Especially Coach Winchester. When they talk about joining a community it's not just a buzzword.
So here's how to do a ...

So I finally got my stuff together enough to edit the first of my video blogs. The idea is to have one of these go up each week.
If you haven't yet, help me out by liking Restora Austin on Facebook and following them on Twitter, and while you're at it show some love to Snap Kitchen and Crossfit Central for all the great help they've given me.

I just got back from my weekly weigh-in for the radio station's weight loss challenge. I came in at 237.3lbs which means that for the last three weeks I've only lost roughly 3 pounds. Simply put, that's not going to cut it. The end date for losing a total of 30 pounds is July 1st so there's still plenty of time, but I need to start kicking it into overdrive. My goal is under 225. Time to start doing extra work besides just my thrice weekly visits to Crossfit Central.
My plan is to start running a couple of miles a day. Which is just a dreadful plan. I know of a couple of people who like to run, but unfortunately I'm not one of them. The key for me is to hit that plateu that all runners reach where it stops sucking and you're just in the zone. If ...

So I was supposed to have a video about Crossfit edited by now but I've been slammed at my other jobs the past couple of days. I do these health minute videos for a health news website and we had equipment issues while the boss was out of town. So I'm currently writing this at 9pm while I'm waiting for videos to render and export. Ah, 15 hour workday, how I've missed you.
Thankfully everything should be back to normal tomorrow. The key thing is that I think I've handled this fairly well. Normally something like this happening would have me all stressed out and thus grumpy and irritable. I probably would have skipped my Crossfit workouts, justifying to myself that I was exhausted and needed the break. Pretty sure eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise has helped me deal with the stress, but it's also a testament ...
