De-Nickified: Mail Time

I got an email this week from a friend who is considering starting a healthier lifestyle by joining Crossfit and they asked me for any advice. I've decided to post my response below for anyone else who might read this and be considering starting Crossfit as well. So I've been contemplating doing cross fit and I've seen your results and I really want to do it. I was wondering if you could maybe help me out and  point me in the right direction. Any help would be great."

Easiest thing to do is check out http://centralathlete.com/ which is Crossfit Central's website, and click on Start Now. That will get you signed up for Crossfit Elements which is basically a crash course in Crossfit.  They'll go over all the basic lifts and exercises you'll go through in workouts and give you a mini-workout. I threw up when I did it, but you should be fine. 


After that you'll decide on how many days a week you want to workout (2-4 days) and which class. They have early morning, midday and afternoon classes at both the Burnet Rd and Downtown (3rd and I-35).  I do 6:45p Downtown with Michael Winchester, it's a bit of a pain with traffic, but he's an awesome coach.  He's really good about going over the different lifts so you're doing them the right way and motivating you without getting in your face. Some other good coaches are Jessica Estrada whose class was the toughest one I've had, Lizi Riley who was my I Am Crossfit coach and was great at encouraging me to keep it up when I first started.  

If you're worried about Crossfit being too tough, Crossfit Central is having a community workout June 29th at 8am that's open to the public.  It will give you a good idea what expect.
