Broken Faces, Hearts & Windows

ALEX KICKBOXING UPDATE:
Producer Alex has been training at South Austin Gym for almost a month now and really enjoying it. Last week he started sparring for the first time and he has quickly learned that getting punched in the face is not his favorite thing. Fortunately, Alex’s coach taught him that when someone hits you, you hit them back fast and hard. Every time they hit you, they’re likely to have left themselves open and then, POW! Just like Batman.
After our broadcast at Fado on Sunday, Deb went for an afternoon chillout with friends and family to a restaurant near the lake. Here they learned everything they could ever have wanted and more from the girl serving them. Boyfriend issues, drugs, alcohol and the explicit acts she desired to perform on certain unwitting actors with whom both she and Deb share an affinity. Sometimes, it's better to keep these things to ourselves, let alone a table full of strangers.
Tuesdays we take a peek into Deb’s Diary to see what it’s like to be a hot, British chick living in Austin. Deb’s voice was broken by SXSW so this edition was brought to you by the dulcet tones of Producer Nick. – It’s time for action. iPhone batteries do not last long enough! During SXSW, too often, Deb found that her phone battery would not last throughout the day. What’s up with that?! I don’t want to carry a charger with me or be worrying all day. Is the iPhone 5S happening anytime soon? Smart people, get on it!
JASON’S BROKEN CAR WINDOW:
How long is too long to have a broken car window? Last Monday, Jason had his car broken into and a box of softballs ripped from his life. It was SXSW last week so who would waste the time to get a window replaced but now Jason just can't be bothered. Is this acceptable? We think not.
YOU AUTO-COMPLETE ME:
Google can be a cocky SOB sometimes, always acting like it knows what you want to search for, and in You Auto-Complete Me, Jason & Deb compete, guessing how Google will auto-complete Producer Alex’s picks. Today, listeners were playing for tickets to see the Dave Matthews Band at Austin360 Amphitheater at the Circuit of Americas. They’ll be there Tuesday, May 21st. Backed by Jason, lucky listener Michelle won a pair of ‘win them before you can buy them’ tickets. Congratulations Michelle! Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 22nd at 10am. Listen in for more chances to win or get your tickets to Dave Matthews and many more on the 101X Concerts Page.
PET OF THE WEEK:
We're all about supporting animal charities, and bringing you the happiness of animals in your own home. So you should check out our friends at Love-A-Bull, who are currently looking for a home for Tiggy, who has clearly lived with a family before, and she wants to be part of yours now. She's very well trained around dogs and people. Give her and the other adopt-a-bulls a look here.
I LOVE YOU CALL:
At 8:50 Deb calls a random business and tries to get the person answering the phone to say, “I love you.” In the first I Love You Call of the week, Deb contacted Frank’s Pet Shop in Illinois. The friendly assistant had no problem allowing Blue to sniff out his favorite treats but when it came down to Love, she just couldn’t deliver.
DOES DEB KNOW STUFF:
Every day we “trivialize” Deb by asking her quiz questions, then laughing when she doesn’t know the answers. Today our trivia was on “People with voices worse than Deb’s.” After a rather hard SXSW, Deb’s voice has gone elsewhere. Deb played a perfect game and lucky listener Kristi won a pair of tickets to go see Citizen Cope at The Long Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 24th. Listen in for more chances to win or get your tickets to Dave Matthews and many more on the 101X Concerts Page.
The US Supreme Court has denied to hear the case of Jammie Thomas-Rasset who has been fined $220,000 for illegally downloading music over the file-sharing site Kazaa. After refusing initial settlement fees of between $3,000 and $5,000, Thomas-Rasset has seen her potential fine go as high as $1.9m, with appeals getting her down to the $220k. A Boston student, Joel Tenenbaum, also refused to settle and was ordered to pay a $675,000 fine last year. The mother of four’s battle began in 2006 and it doesn’t look like she’ll be able to get out of this one. Pay for your music kids, you could be liable for tens of thousands in fines per song!
A compost fire at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant, Austin, has been an unending battle for the city since late February. So far the city has spent at least $2m cleaning up this pile of s@*! and other organic material. Officials estimate that the final bill will likely top $3m.
30 Seconds To Mars’ newest song, Up In The Air, debuted in Space yesterday. It comes out on Planet Earth today. A CD was sent on March 1st and it arrived at the Space Station yesterday. We’re not sure how they managed to pull that off but we want in! Let’s get some Jason & Deb podcasts and merchandise up there.
Lebron James is good at basketball, you heard it here first people. Miami Heat won their 23rd straight game, the 2nd longest in the history of the NBA. Only the 1972 LA Lakers have won more.
Tiger Woods & Lindsey Vonn are Facebook-officially dating. The couple made the announcement the only way we know how to share this kind of information, on their Twitter and Facebook pages. The pair asked for privacy in a desire to be a “normal couple.” Included in the posts were professionally shot photos like the one to the right. Just a normal couple, yea? No.
March Madness begins today! The NCAA Division 1 basketball tournament will start this evening and the Longhorns… will not be there. UT didn’t qualify for the division 1 tournament and instead will be playing in the third-tier College Basketball Invitational. This is the first time in 15 years that the UT team didn’t make the NCAA tournament.
