Humane Society of Williamson County Hosts Rescue Run 5K & 1 Mile Dog Walk to Support Life-Saving Mission!

The Humane Society of Williamson County (HSWC) invites community members to join in a fun and healthy day during its 2nd Annual Rescue Run 5K and 1 Mile Dog Walk on Saturday, September 29, 2012. Both events will take place on and around HSWC’s beautiful 22-acre site in Leander, TX. The goal of this family-fun events is to raise funding that will directly support a free mega adoption event to follow that afternoon, thus finding forever homes for 100 dogs and cats in just one day! The 2012 Rescue Run is a simple yet powerful way to support HSWC’s life-saving mission while running a 5K or leisurely strolling in the 1 mile Dog Walk.

“HSWC has a good race course with a great finish! It’s easy to navigate with just a few simple turns. While we are all obsessed with running at Rogue Running, knowing that we are spending our time supporting a great cause gives us that much fire in our step! The Rogue runners who race it all broke personal records! I look forward to bring more Rogue runners to this year’s race!” said Carolyn Mangold, Director of Training with Rogue Running. As a sponsor of HSWC’s 2012 Rescue Run, Rogue Running is providing a discounted Intro to Rogue training class for 5K running to any participant that signs up for the HSWC Rescue Run.

“HSWC wants to challenge local runners to make running a 5K about helping to find forever families for homeless dogs and cats in our community. By signing up to run the 5K or stroll with their dogs in the 1 Mile Dog Walk participants can take part in a fun event that provides support to save animals’ lives,” said Ron Marullo, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Williamson County. Marullo went on to say, “The 5K Rescue Run is a unique way to raise needed funds. On average it costs $200 to prepare an animal for adoption, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, food, and shelter. On the day of the Rescue Run, HSWC is hosting a Super Adoption Event to find 100 dogs, cats, puppies, and kitties their forever homes in a single day! We are a private organization and do not receive any government funding. This race is a creative and fun way to engage our local community to help support our mission. The Free Super Adoption Event that will directly follow the Rescue Run will be incredibly inspiring for all to see their donations directly at work.”

Animal lovers, running enthusiasts, and community activists can now register for both the 5K Rescue Run as well as the 1 mile Dog Walk online at www.hswc.net/5k. Early registration 5K pricing of $20 is available now until July 31. The 1 mile Dog Walk registration fee is $15 for the first registered dog per family and $10 for each additional dog.
