(4/28/13) Monty's Catch of the Day - Lana Del Rey

Baz Luhrmann is set to release his latest film The Great Gatsby, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan. He's also the director of the classic William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge. Interesting thing about Luhrmann is that he has a very unique style of filmmaking, and a strong passion for music as well. Now I've always believed that if you can get the right music with the right movie imagery/acting/cinematography, then you can create something that will move your audience and make beautiful magic. I don't know if The Great Gatsby is going to be a "great" movie, but I can tell you that the soundtrack is turning out to be one of the best compilations for a film I've seen in a long time. The executive producer of the soundtrack is the one and only Jay-Z, and features such artists as Sia, Florence and the Machine, Bryan Ferry, Emeli Sandé, and The xx just to name a few. You will also find Beyoncé and André 3000 doing a cover of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black", and Jack White doing a cover of U2's "Love is Blindness". Today's catch of the day comes from the beautiful Lana Del Rey with one of the main musical themes of the film entitled "Young & Beautiful". Now I couldn't help but go with the orchestral version of the song, which really brings out the story's drama, and flows flawlessly with LDR's voice. It's one strong and very emotional piece of music, and I love it. The soundtrack comes out on May 7th, and I have posted all of the tracks below. I'm very excited and a bit curious to see how these songs will coincide with the film, and if they are going to enhance the whole movie experience. We will soon find out. You can listen to a clip of today's catch, "Young & Beautiful (DH Orchestral Version)" by Lana Del Rey in the audio player above. Good things!
