(3/10/13) Monty's Catch of the Day - M83

The trend of French electronic bands composing a score for a motion picture continues with M83 being the latest. Antony Gonzales, the main force behind M83, will be doing the musical score to the upcoming Tom Cruise sci-fi film, Oblivion. So let's look at the list of French artists I'm referring to that have contributed to film. There is Air who did the movie score for The Virgin Suicides. We also have Daft Punk composing all of the music for Tron: Legacy. Don't forget about Phoenix who put together music for the indie film, Somewhere. Now M83 is taking their shot on the blockbuster flick, which is due out in April. Today's catch is the first single released on the upcoming soundtrack entitled, "StarWave", and it sounds like a continuation to last year's mega-hit album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. The ambient and ethereal sounds of M83 are a perfect match for any sci-fi movie, and I would bet a lot of money that their score will only enhance the film. The best part about this track is that it really reaches the boundaries between an actual score, and a typical M83 song, especially since their music is so theatrical to begin with. I can't wait to see this flick, and really can't wait to hear the entire soundtrack for it. You can listen to a clip of "StarWave" in the audio player above. Good things!
