(4/20/14) Monty's Catch of the Day - Eno • Hyde

Posted 4/20/2014 8:25:00 AM

Eno • Hyde...Brian Eno (Roxy Music, solo ambient artist, Grammy winning producer) and Karl Hyde (Underworld) have joined together to make a "super band", if you will. Their dynamic collaboration has spawned their first full length entitled Someday World. The album has a release date of May 6, and will feature plenty of guest musicians, including Andy Mackay, Darla Eno (Brian Eno's daughter), Sinead O'Connor, Will Champion (Coldplay drummer), as well as soul singer Don-E. Both Eno and Hyde will be contributing on both electronics and vocals for most of the songs, including today's catch called "Daddy's Car". With Eno at age 65 and Hyde at age 56, you are looking at over 100 years of songwriting, singing, keyboard programming, which weighs pretty heavy in my eyes. "Daddy's Car" is a pretty groovy little track due to the vocals, melody, and infectious beat, which will have your toes ...

(4/6/14) Monty's Catch of the Day - How to Dress Well

Posted 4/6/2014 8:25:00 AM

Tom Krell aka How to Dress Well, and his beautiful falsetto voice brings us today's catch, entitled "Words I Don't Remember". The combination of Krell's voice and the euphoric electronic sounds really defines the meaning of "chill". This is the first single off How to Dress Well's upcoming sophomore album, What Is This Heart?, due out at the end of June. It will be released as a digital download, CD, double LP, and deluxe double LP (which includes a 28-page booklet and a bonus one-sided 10" featuring two exclusive tracks). Krell has stated this about "Words I Don't Remember"..."This song for me is about love, trust, commitment... and what happens to these things and, like, what happens to really real love when sentimentality is so co-opted and ruined. What remains of true love in this world of simulations?". You can listen to today's catch from How to Dress ...

(3/30/14) Monty's Catch of the Day - Friendly Fires

Posted 3/30/2014 8:25:00 AM

I'm excited to say that today's "catch" is a brand new tune from Friendly Fires called "Before Your Eyes". I'll let them and their website give you the details on the new single below...

"Friendly Fires today teased their first new material since 2011’s Pala, unveiling a short trailer of their collaboration track with Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay, aka The Asphodells.

At some point in 2013, Friendly Fires and The Asphodells convened in an east London pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. The plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles – a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal.

The collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful Friendly Fires albums – 2008’s debut Friendly Fires and 2011’s follow up Pala – ...

London Grammar + INXS + Game of Thrones

Posted 3/30/2014 8:24:00 AM

A new season of Game of Thrones is right around the corner, and HBO/GOT have released a few trailers to promote the enormously popular series. With that said, Chillville favorites, London Grammar, have contributed music to one of these trailers entitled "Devil Inside". Appropriately, London Grammar recorded a cover of the late-great INXS hit "Devil Inside" as the background music for the trailer. Now if we could only get them to release a complete version of the track to the public. Check out this very impressive Game of Thrones trailer below. Good things!

(3/23/14) Monty's Catch of the Day - Sia

Posted 3/23/2014 8:25:00 AM

The past few years, Sia has written several songs for other artists (including Katy Perry, Beyonce, and Kylie Minogue), she has lent her vocals to a couple of huge international hits (Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" and David Guetta's "Titanium"), and recorded two singles for The Great Gatsby ("Kill and Run") and The Hunger Games:Catching Fire ("Elastic Heart") soundtracks, but we have yet to hear anything for herself since 2010's We Are Born LP. That is until now. She has just released a brand new single called "Chandelier", which is not only today's Catch of the Day, but is also rumored to be the first track off her upcoming 6th full length solo album. Even then, "Chandelier" came very close to be another song written for someone else. In a recent interview, Sia said "I usually think, 'Oh this would work for Rihanna, or this would be a ...

(3/16/14) Monty's Catch of the Day - Beach House

Posted 3/16/2014 8:25:00 AM

Beach House has recorded a new track that is part of a pretty unique project involving the Voyager I and Voyager II space probes that NASA launched in 1977. Lefse Records is in charge of the project, and the following statement is taken from their website.

"...Matt Halverson, who runs the Portland-based label Lefse Records, was talking with his brother in law, Exogenesis President and Chief Scientist Sean Anklam, who described a trove of recordings the NASA-launched Voyager space probes had made in the outer solar system. Halverson, the Walter White to Anklam’s Hank Schrader, was overtaken by an idea: to commission imaginative artists to create songs and soundscapes out of the Voyager recordings. The interest among musicians—including Spiritualized, Beach House, The Antlers, Mutual Benefit, Blues Control and others—was overwhelming. Lefse will release the resulting album, entitled Space Project, on April 19, Record Store Day. It will be available on vinyl, CD, and as a 7” ...

(3/9/14) Monty's Catch of the Day - Thievery Corporation

Posted 3/9/2014 8:25:00 AM

I can't express to you how excited about today's catch. It's a track called "Depth of My Soul" by Chillville core artist, Thievery Corporation. Now this brilliant piece of work features Shana Halligan (from Bitter:Sweet) and is the first single off their upcoming album, Saudade. At this point, I'm going to let TC take over below on describing the new album, all of the guest performers, and the direction they are going with their sound.

Straight from their website:
"Now, with their seventh studio album SaudadeThievery Corporation present their first release devoted entirely to the Brazilian-born genre that first connected them. “We always try to progress into something different and stretch our musical chops, and taking a whole album to dive into this one sound seemed like a really great way to do that,” says Hilton. Adds Garza: “It’s a bit of a departure for us, but at ...
