Deb's "Nut" Problem

Today Deb brought in a mystery nut.  She had found it in her yard, and she couldn't figure out what tree it came from.

We had to have several listeners inform us before we figured out that it's not a nut at all.  It's a wasp egg.

Gall wasps lay eggs inside of trees, and the trees grow these protective balls around them.  These looked like the evil insects inside had already hatched and gotten away.   Or when Deb cracked it open, she murdered the sleeping wasp babies.

Which is fine.
