Party Like a Local With the Locals
It's SXSW! See shows! With locals!
Tuesday, March 17
The 5th Annual SXSW Music Tech Mashup day and night party at Empire Control Room and Garage leans heavily on local talent while also mixing some rad outsiders. I'll be posted up here all day doing stage announcements and lucky me, knocking out almost all my favorite local bands in one swoop. The party starts up at 1p and features Emily Wolfe (1:30p), Taft (1:45p), Holiday Mountain (2:30p), Chipper Jones (2:45p), Whiskey Shivers (3:30p), Hikes (3:45p), Megafauna (4:45p), Otis the Destroyer (5:45p), Houston's The Suffers (4:30p), Wild Child (5:30p) and Hard Proof (6:30p). Head into the night with the SXSW showcase featuring locals SPEAK (7:45p), Marmalakes (8:30p), Cordouri (9p), Roger Sellers (9:30p), geezer favs Shakey Graves (9:15p) and Gary Clark Jr. (12:30p) and out of towners Tuxedo (Mayer Hawthorne's new project!), Goldfish, Daedelus and more. RSVP here and you might win yourselves some VIP action. Don't forget to say hi to me!
I'm also pretty smitten with this line up down the street at Cheer Up Charlie's featuring my favs Shivery Shakes (1a), Abram Shook (8p) and Sweet Spirit (8:30p). Presented by Riot Act Media (inside stage) and No Play Music (outside stage), both stages are full of local bad assery that also includes Residual Kids (4:30p), Grape St. (5:50), missions (3p), Bitter Birds (7:30p), The Sour Notes (11p) and Feb. Homegrown Live darlings Moving Panoramas (7p) Thanks to the all inclusive peeps at Cheer Up Charlie's, this is a rare official SXSW showcase that's totally free! No RSVPS, wristbands, or badges needed. More info here and here.

If you like it harder, the fine booking people of Hotel Hot Burrito are back with another edition of Good Vibrations, taking over east side venues Hotel Vegas and Volstead. Party starts up at 2p with Austin cuties Gal Pals (can we just take a second to say kudos to the people at Hotel Vegas for starting at 2p like a SXSW dayparty should. People be crazy with their 11:30am dayshows. Cra. ze.) and continues through the night with the SXSW showcase. Local brutes I dig: Flash Boys (7:15p), The Wolf (8:45p), Breakout (9:30p), Hundred Visions (9:30p), Flesh Lights (10:30p).
