Silent Auction Ninja
Jun. 10, 2014
I may have got myself into a bit of a pickle last week. Jason and I hosted the X-Games kick off party at Belmont last Wednesday and it was a ton of fun. There was live music with Zeale and G Love, celebrity X-Games athletes, and great food and booze. There was also an amazing silent auction. The items had been donated to raise funds for the V Foundation, which is a wonderful cancer charity. As I perused the silent auction items, I couldn't help but notice there were a few items that didn't have any bids on them. If you've never done a silent auction, this is how it works: The item is displayed on the table with a description and minimum bid price for the item. There were some super cool items for auction including a signed Ryan Sheckler skate deck, a Colt McCoy signed football helmet and a limited edition black Go-Pro. I casually put in a bid for the go pro as it didn't have any other bids. You know, to get the ball rolling and encourage more bids. And it worked! I was out bid shortly thereafter. However a few days later, I got a call that I did in fact win the item! Huh!? Wha?!? I thought I'd been out bid, and now I'm buying it?! Crap! It's $400!
