ACL Spotlight: Mutemath

Austin City Limits is finally descending upon us and we’re scouring the lineup this week to bring you our recommendations for bands not to miss at Weekend One. Today’s spotlight is on Mutemath, the psychedelic synth-rock outfit from New Orleans.

 

Originating as a long-distance project between former collaborators Paul Meany (formerly of Earthsuit) and Darren King, the duo recruited guitarist Greg Hill and went on to release 5 full-length albums as Mutemath. Despite several lineup changes over the years the group has only continued to gain momentum, continuously topping the Billboard Alternative and Rock Charts and dropping their latest highly-anticipated album Play Dead in September.

 

Their unique brand of chilled out but danceable alternative anthems is recommended for fans of indie-rock mainstays like Young the Giant, Portugal. The Man, and Twenty One Pilots, with whom they released a collaborative EP last December. Get to the fest early to catch their set at 2:15 PM Friday on the Honda stage (Weekend One only) before they hit the road for their US Play Dead Live Tour this month.
