The beginning of the beginningSo it's all begun...March is here and live music seemingly will take over this town (and my social life) for the next 7 months or so.  Last week sorta kicked my ass, but it was a good, welcomed ass kick.  Last Saturday brought Flogging Molly to Stubb's, I hosted a meet and greet with the band with some 101X listeners, it was my 2nd time to meet the band, totally nice guys, although I'm pretty sure they masquerade as leprechauns in their spare time, the show was cool, but I think I've decided that as far as the Irish style punk rock goes, I'm more of a Dropkicks guy.  Wednesday night, Modest Mouse was at Stubb's, I managed to scrounge a ticket at the very last minute (thanks, "the weave")  Every time I've seen MM, they've always left something to be desired, that night was no exception.  They sounded ok, but ...

obama on the radio? So yesterday was pretty damn amazing, wasn't it my fellow 'mmericans.  It was nice to see GW board that chopper, only problem is, he's heading back to these neck of the woods!  Aretha's hat made my day too.  i attended DJ Mel's Inaug party, which wouldda been cool, except we stood in line for free beer for 30 minutes before we said "f it" and went to the blinkin side bar instead...this is my obamacon. more free week stuff and a cool video...
Tuesday night I found myself at Red 7 for some more free week action.  The more I go there, the more I dig it...Their staff is awesome, thanks to my friend Tyson (red 7 bar mgr and pack of wolves member extraordinare) for keeping the beers ice cold and quick on the draw.  I also really dig their allegiance to them Houston Astros, so much so, that they don't serve a certain beer there originating from houston's central division rival Cardinals host city.  Anyway, I went to Red 7 to support my buds Johnny Gobbs who opened the evening's festivities.  You can check them here.  Eagle Claw followed them outside, and they were just oh so metal.  I also learned that a buddy of mine, Luther, was their bassist, too groovy.  Watching the Moon was next inside, very raw, very Nirvana like, which is not a bad thing by any means.  The ...

Free Week Downtown!!!

So to ease the current economic downturn, and your re-entrance back to the horrible reality that is work, it's free week at some venues in the Red River area, including Emo's, Red 7, The Mohawk, Club Deville, and The Beauty Bar...Over the weekend, I caught Ringo Deathstarr at Emo's on Friday, and Saturday I was at The Mohawk for The Riverboat Gamblers, both acts great, both venues on both nights...slammed.  We'll see you out for more beers and music this week as free week continues...

another BLAHHGSo it’s time for another BLAHHG.  Here’s to another party weekend in the Austin Texas.

Thursday brought the 4th Annual 101X Indie Wkfc Xmas to Emo’s.  The fellas from the Black and White Years stopped by the program to chat early in the day, thanks to them for taking the time.  I arrived in time to catch The Eagles of Death Metal, who, I have never seen a better performance from.  The Black Kids did their thing, and then it was time for the Ting Tings!!  (I heart Katie White)  I got to bring them on stage which was a bloody honor for a half limey like meeself.  Thanks to all of you people we raised a lot of loot for Habitat for Humanity Austin, Vans, Jameson and GoGear all deserve props too, as well as the staff at Emo’s and C3 Presents.

Saturday was spent with the ...
