I'm super excited to tell you about a sweet, special, beautiful, fun new addition to my life - I bring you Princess Piglet!!!!  Piglet, or Piggie as I've begun calling her, is a stray dog I found running in traffic this weekend. Now, before you get too excited for me, I'm pretty sure that I won't be keeping her forever, but I'm happy to foster her until I find her 'forever home'. And it's not like I mind taking care of her, she's a pleasure. But she's got kind of a sad story. My friend Jeff and I were on our way to work out Sunday morning when Jeff saw a dog who looked a lot like my dog Blue, running in between cars at 12th and Airport. She looked terrified but no one was stopping. I managed to get her to slow down by whistling at her from the car, then I jumped out and grabbed her. She was frantic and limping badly, but I calmed her down and walked her all the way back to my house. After feeding and watering her and giving her some time to chill out, we took her to the vet to see if she had a microchip. Sadly, but not surprisingly, there was no chip. The folks at 24 Hr Vet Care on N. Lamar gave her an examination and apart from being flea infested, beaten up a little and pretty under nourished, they declared her basically healthy. I was still worried about her back left leg though, and after an x-ray we saw that she had a problem with her femur. The vet recommended that I take her to a specialist so yesterday I went to see the amazing vet at Heart Of Austin Vets in RR. It was there I got the bad news that poor little Piglet would need surgery to fix her leg. And that surgery is not cheap, even with the wonderful 'good Samaritan' discount from Dr Vasanjee.
